8 fun things during your winter holiday break

As we creep closer to the holidays, it’s important to take a little break to celebrate, to have some fun, and to rest. So we’ve compiled a list of 8 fun things to do over the winter holidays when you take a break

Go to a market

There are so many markets happening locally, especially during the holiday season! I often see several over just a single weekend. I personally love them because you can find unique and handmade items - which is perfect for those looking to shop and support local this holiday season.

Try a winter activity

Trying a winter activity on the days that aren’t so cold is a great way to spend some time off. From making a snowman, to hiking, skating, and more - there’s lots of fun to be had outside. I know my spouse and I will be putting on some snowshoes this winter to hike with our dogs!

Check out the holiday lights and displays

There’s just something nice and kind of magical about going for a stroll or a drive to look at all the holiday lights and displays, particularly at night. There are also plenty of larger light displays, check out this list of Holiday light festivals in Ontario 2023.

Plan a cosy day in

Sometimes it’s nice to just stay inside away from the cold. You can spend the day baking or making a gingerbread house, you can do some crafting (like making ornaments or a wreath), or you can play board games or do a puzzle.

Host a game night

Speaking of board games, you can host a game night! My spouse and I love getting together with our friends to game - whether that’s playing a board game or firing up the Nintendo Switch to play Mario Party or the new Super Mario Bros. Wonder. This is a great way to have a few hours of fun with friends or family!

Have a holiday movie night or a marathon

My partner and I love having a marathon or watching a few movies during our holiday break. You can plan your watch list, make your space comfortable, and make some great snacks. In case you need some inspiration for your movie marathon, here’s a list of the 100 Best Christmas Movies of All Time

Go out for a nice meal

Sometimes taking a break can mean taking a break from cooking - from breakfast, to brunch, to lunch, or a nice dinner, dining out for a nice meal can be a great way to enjoy your time off. We suggest trying something new in your local community!

Volunteer

The holiday season can be hard for anyone, so giving back and volunteering is a great way to spend your break. For example, you can volunteer at a Soup Kitchen, a food bank, or a pet shelter.

As mentioned above, the holiday season can be hard, so it’s important, above all, to take care of yourself. If you need some extra support this holiday season, here is a list of resources throughout Canada.

We hope you all enjoy your holidays!
