4 ways to get more quality product reviews

Product reviews can make or break a company. That’s because around 95% of customers look for online reviews. So it’s not just a marketing tool – it’s a direct line of communication to help your customers build trust in you before purchasing. It’s social proof; it shows that other customers value what you’re selling, so it inspires trust. If that weren’t enough, reviews usually increase search traffic and help boost your conversions.

If reviews are so important, how do you get more quality reviews? Here are 4 ways to get more reviews.

Post-purchase emails

The most obvious way to get more reviews is simply to ask. Your customers have first-hand experience with your products/services so why not ask them for a review? The easiest way is to collect emails so you can send a post-purchase email. I have also seen physical store locations have a QR code in-store so you can leave a review before you even step outside.

If you’re going to send an email to ask for a review, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Keep it short. Don’t let your request for a review get lost in too many words. Keep it simple, sweet, and short.

  • Include a link to where you want them to leave their review. If your customers have to try to find where to leave a review they will likely not write the review. Make it easy to leave a review.

  • Keep it to 1 call to action so it’s not confusing. If you are going to send an email asking for a review, don’t ask for anything else otherwise your customers may do one and not the other. If you have a number of calls to action, consider an automated email series post-purchase.

Give an incentive

If you find you’re just not getting as many reviews as you would like, there is nothing wrong with giving some sort of incentive to those who leave you a review. For example, you could enter them in a draw for a giveaway, give a gift card, give them free shipping on their next purchase, or give them a discount on their next purchase. It doesn’t have to be a huge thing, but it will make your customers feel like they are getting something for spending the time on writing a review.

Share reviews on social media

If it doesn’t happen on social media has it even happened in the real world? All jokes aside, your social media is often times the first place your customers will visit to find out more about you. So why not feature some of your best reviews and testimonials on there? Not only does it show that people have good things to say about you, but it also shows that you care about what your customers are saying.

There are two different ways to get those reviews on social media:

  • User Generated Content: Created by your customers, you can ask people to share reviews on social media or even submit video reviews to you via email that you can then share. However, it’s always great if they post to social because it feels very organic.

  • Feature posts/quotes: Created by you, these would be more text based images with a quote from their review so you’re sharing their words.

Run an influencer relations campaign

Lastly, a great way to get high quality reviews is to work with amazing content creators. Influencer marketing is a fantastic way to get your product in the hands of someone who will post a review. The fact that they make content for a living means they also know what their audience likes and can sometimes surprise you with a fresh take on your brand. There are so many benefits to working with influencers. I won’t go over them now, but we’ve written on this in the past! Check out those blogs here, here, and here.

Two things to remember as you put your influencer campaign together is that you need to build relationships before you pitch anything and you also need to make sure they are a good fit for your brand.
