3 Reasons to Start a Business in the Summer

By Trevor Shorte

Is the summer a good time to start a business? That’s a somewhat loaded question. If you are starting a seasonal business, say selling ski and snowboard accessories, summer might not be the best time for you to be able to get the attention of your target audience with your message. If you have the right idea and the ability to execute a good strategy though, here are three reasons why the summer can be the perfect time to get started.

NOBODY’S PAYING ATTENTION

Now I know what you’re thinking, isn’t that the exact opposite of what marketing is supposed to do? Yes, it is. However, when you are just starting out, this is where you can make your mistakes and hone your craft. The world is a busy place and people are going to be distracted with whatever is going on in their lives. You can use this time to really study your target market, define your ideal client, and validate your business idea.

SUMMER SAVINGS

It’s not uncommon for businesses to use discounts as a way to boost their sales numbers in the summer months. This can be good for your business in two ways. The first is that if you need to buy products or services from suppliers in order to run your business, you can take advantage of their discounts to buy what you need, which can make things a little easier on your limited budget. The other way is that offering a discount to brand new customers could be a good way to get your name out there and promote your business. Think about it… who doesn’t love a summer sale and getting a good deal??

PEOPLE ARE NICER

If it seems like people are happier in the summer, that’s not just your imagination. There’s actually, some science behind that belief. The sunshine, longer days, and summer socializing generally tends to put people in a good mood. Why is that important for your new business?? For starters, if a person is in a good mood, then you have a better shot of getting them to take a chance and try out your product/service. People want to support local businesses in their communities, especially now. So, if you’re able to get their attention, you will have an opportunity to create a memorable customer experience that they will tell their friends about at the next BBQ they go to.

When it comes down to it, summer isn’t necessarily a bad time to start a business. Honestly though, it really doesn’t matter what season you start. If you have followed the 6 Steps To Turn Your Idea into a Business, you can start your business anytime of the year!
